WMBD/WYZZ-TV—BLOOMINGTON--The Home Sweet Home Ministries Recovery Room is where more than 80 homeless people learn to over come addictions and get a better outlook on life.
It warm hues of harvest colors and inspiring words on the walls are thanks to Home Specialist Lyn Westoff.
Westoff says her life challenges inspired her to help those at the shelter, ”I'm disadvantaged, I think that we all are in some aspects, I’m very honored that they allow me to come in and do this.”
But those who run home sweet home ministries say the honor is theirs. Especially because Westoff helped the recovery room go from drab to inspirational in just one week.
“It's like Wow! I mean it just completely changes the whole atmosphere of our spaces and it just ads so much more that we would've never had the time or skills to do on our own,” said Vice President of HSH Marketing, Sabrina Burkiewicz.
Westoff also donated her services to add color to the HSH Mission Mart, which managers say helped bring the second hand store to life.
“A lot of people have commented on the store, it looks so much cleaner, it looks so much bigger, the lay out looks so much better…it definitely made the store I think look a lot bigger and we had a lot of people say gosh your ceilings look so tall,” said Manager, Karen Oshinski.
Which is important to the new wave of shoppers that browse the Mart
“The economy is so tough today that you know I want anyone to be able to feel like whether they have a lot or a little that this is a place that they can come and just be wiser with their money,” said Oshinki.
Still to the designer who volunteered her talent to add energy to the Ministries, “This is something that I enjoy doing and I just consider it something small.”
